On top of the concrete benefits of just needing to master fewer technologies, it’s hard to overstate how nice it is to keep your head in one place (the backend, in this case) for the vast majority of the development. Having to think about the interplay between client-side JavaScript, a REST API, and the backend was like wearing a weighted vest since birth.
